SOFTWARE ENGINEER · CONNECTICUT

Software that
moves the
real world.

I’m Chris Bonomi. I build software for autonomous aircraft, work at the intersection of code and hardware, and mentor the next generation through robotics.

01 / SELECTED WORK

From the mission
to the machine.

A selection of engineering work at Sikorsky, spanning the software lifecycle from planning and implementation to integration and flight test.

01 / AUTONOMY

Mission planning
& execution

Software that helps autonomous rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft plan and carry out missions.

AutonomyOperator interfaces
Explore the work

Developed mission planning and execution software, along with interfaces for mission planning, monitoring, and operator control.

Developed networking and communications interfaces for real-time command, control, and telemetry between ground systems and airborne platforms.

02 / EMBEDDED SYSTEMS

Connecting software
and hardware

Embedded firmware and device interfaces that connect autonomy software to custom flight computing hardware.

FirmwareAvionics
Explore the work

Designed and implemented embedded firmware, including low-level device drivers and hardware abstraction layers.

Developed interfaces for avionics and peripheral devices using RS-485, Ethernet, and ARINC 429, and configured, validated, and deployed onboard computing systems.

03 / INTEGRATION & TEST

Engineering beyond
the development desk

System integration, field deployments, and hands-on technical support for autonomous flight operations.

Flight testSystem integration
Explore the work

Supported flight tests through system monitoring, troubleshooting, data collection, and real-time technical support.

Collaborated with customers, aircraft manufacturers, and multidisciplinary teams to integrate autonomy software and resolve software, networking, and hardware issues across airborne and ground systems.

02 / BACKGROUND

A systems mindset.
A hands-on approach.

My background is in computer engineering. My work brings together software, electronics, networking, and the practical challenge of making them work as one system.

At Sikorsky, I’ve contributed across requirements, design, implementation, integration, verification, and flight-test support. I enjoy work that connects an idea on a screen to something happening in the physical world.

03 / COMMUNITY & MENTORSHIP

Building robots.
Supporting people.

Robotics is part of my life beyond my day job. I support and mentor FRC Team 195, the CyberKnights, in Southington, Connecticut.

It’s a chance to share my engineering experience, support students as they learn, and stay connected to a community built around solving problems together.

Meet the CyberKnights

04 / WHAT’S NEXT

Let’s build
something meaningful.

I’m interested in software engineering opportunities where I can bring my experience in autonomy, embedded systems, and integration to a new set of problems.
